As a landlord, you have a great opportunity to help reduce homelessness in our community, while benefiting with lower vacancy rates, consistent rent payments, support for tenants, and more. North House works with landlords like you to provide permanent, affordable, and supported housing solutions to the communities in north Durham Region.

Signing Bonus! Landlords participating in Opening Doors in Durham Region may be eligible* to receive a signing bonus of up to $1,000. To be eligible to landlords must agree to:

  • use modified tenant screening criteria such as accepting applicants without income, with previous evictions, and/or criminal history that would previously lead to a denied application; or
  • accept an affordable rent that is lower than the average market rate.

Room rental between $700-$900 per month
Bachelor/studio rental between $950-$1,250 per month
1 bedroom rental between $1,200-$1,600 per month
2 bedroom rental between $1,400-$1,800 per month
3 bedroom rental between $1,600-$2,000 per month

You do! As the property manager, you have the final approval in determining the eligibility of a resident according to your own requirements.

No, your processes stay the same.

Yes! You will continue to do business as usual: your lease, your application, and whatever other requirements you already have will continue.

The same way your other residents pay rent! Direct deposit, cheque, in person, e-transfer. You and the resident will agree upon terms.

We need an MOU (Memorandum of Understanding).

No, we just ask the property manager to make the unit that they are providing be at or below Average Market Rent.
